Karu is the leader of a small but noble samurai family. His dedication to protecting his lands and following the honourable path may have gone entirely unnoticed by the world until three princesses of the imperial house were ambushed on his lands. After giving them aid and helping them on their way, Karu left to follow them to aid in their quest, not knowing if he will even be able to find them again.
Karu is a powerful samurai and his great Zanbato can do immense damage. The combination of Tireless and Bansai means he can charge into combat and still out activate the enemy. His Ki Feat allows for damaging or even killing multiple enemies at once.

The Golden Sentinels are the bodyguards of the Emperor’s clan, guarding the family on their travels, in their homes and in court. They also serve as escorts to his Teishin as they journey his Empire spreading his holy word. If the Teishin of the Imperial court are the Emperors voice in distant more barbaric lands, then the Golden Sentinels serve as his shield, all proven warriors, sworn to protect their charges with their lives if needed. However, such is the size of the Golden Empire that Imperial missions and postings can often take many seasons to complete not taking into account the travel across the great empire and so often the Sentinels can sometimes take on the local customs and in rare circumstances become embroiled in the affairs of locals.

The Hoshi and the Minimoto families are so intertwined as to be almost one. Many a Hoshi daughter has descended from the frozen peaks above to marry a Minimoto, son. Equally, many a Minimoto has risen from below to take their place in a Hoshi household. Sora is an excellent representation of this, a fine blend of both Houses. He carries the bear’s blessing in his large frame and stalwart manner, but it is Hoshi blood that allows him to withstand the fierce winds and freezing snows that blanket the Iron Mountian’s peaks. While still an ashigaru, he is tipped to join the ranks of the guards who protect the ice maidens. Only the very best are given this posting, as it means living in the high places of the world, in gale-force winds, blizzards and whiteouts that can last for days, weeks even. Sora has embraced the best of his lineage and has become a blizzard warrior of some renown.

The man, the myth, the Mountain! Not called this because of his stature but for his steadfastness and determination in battle. Yama refused to fall despite receiving the most grievous of wounds, wounds that would have toppled the most formidable of samurai. Younger warriors seek him out on the battlefield to shore up their resolve.
With the banner held high, he can call any Frightened Minimoto back to action; this is very useful as their Steadfast trait means they often end up in combat while having the state. So, with no penalties, the line will hold.Note: Yama is designed to go with The Mountain Banner card from the Minimoto Special Card Pack. The enemy will always have to make Yama a priority with this Enhancement - Equipment card attached.

While he has not yet progressed to making weapons, Kinzoku is considered a master armour smith. The Armor Smiths most often accompany the Minimoto Army to war as they both maintain the army's gear, but they also choose the worthy unblessed to gift with a new suit of armour, allowing them to truly become Ashigaru.
The Bless Ki Feat allows you to reinforce an unblessed model where it is needed mid-game, and Irokane Protection is invaluable for Samurai and Ashigaru alike when your opponent has those Pierce weapons that counter your armour.However, it is the Empower Ki Feat that opens up a whole new way to play the faction, and combined with Leadership and the unique courage effect, running many unblessed models is very viable. It also opens options for other models, such as the Shugenja and unarmoured bears.

Odamu is typical of the Hoshi family. Their ways are old, uncorrupted by what others deem new or modern. Visiting them is to journey back in time regarding speech, manners, food, and attire. Hoshi Odamu is no exception. He wears armour most newer samurai have never even seen! However, his close relationship and proximity to the Minimoto clan ensures his blades and garb are still the most exemplary in Jwar. Because he has the blessings of the Bear Mon, he is at home fighting alongside his Minimoto allies. He has, over some time, developed a deep and heartfelt affinity for the great bears that call this place home. He feels it almost spiritually, a meeting of minds when both bear and Odamu are near one another. He cannot speak their tongue but has connection enough to lead these ferocious beasts into battle. He likes the wilds and spending time with the bears, following them into areas so cold and remote that another person would perish in moments. Not so Odamu; Hoshi's blood warms his veins, and the Hoshi are famed for enduring extreme cold and foul weather.Finest Steel players will welcome this new samurai. Odamu is a challenging prospect on the field. Not only does he have a high number of Wound Boxes - as well as Armour 4 - but he punishes any would-be aggressors with Held, and often also Slow. But this is where it gets interesting: he also deals damage in return when wounded! With Armour (4) and the ubiquitous Just a Scratch card, this often deals more damage than Odamu takes!

After a meeting of Masters, The venerable Master Ekusa was nominated by Master Enos to become Grand Master of the Temple.A single leader to combat the many threats the Temple faces with the Savage Wave, Cult of Yurei and strife among the Samurai Clans (Again) being exacerbated by the return of the Kinshi Temple from out of time and existence. Ekusa still sits atop his old friend Kame Sam, but the newly opened Ki energies have invigorated the old master, he now levitates above the tortoise shell and he looks less than half his true age. With all the resources of the Temple at his disposal, will Ekusa turn the tide?
Temple players have been using Ekusa since the original release of the game. With his unmatched Channel and Leach abilities and unique support options he already has a place in many lists. His new options open the choices for list building even more with an enhancement to make him the ultimate support model in the Temple faction. He now comes with an Enhancement card offering more abilities making sure you always get a great activation. The Believer trait is one that monk players have been wanting for a long time. The new model also comes with a theme card which only permits Master Monks. While this is very limited, the abilities gained allow for a really cinematic list where the Masters are all but unassailable.

Gok’s fate was sealed before he was even conceived. His harsh upbringing combined with his inability to learn, left him as a ideal recruit for the Cult of Yurei, that and the fact that he is quite formidable. His mutating mass, and he has a lot of it, allows Gok to adapt to best any opponent. The disease ridden, body filled cart he insists on hauling also serves as a grotesque distraction in battle for his opponents.

The Heimin class consists mainly of farmers, artisans and merchants. But these peasants know the true lords of the prefecture and follow them still when they go to war. Being below the notice of most Samurai and living far from the cities of Jwar, most villages are unaware that the Shiho no longer control the prefecture, while others are still loyal to their old Shiho masters regardless. Those loyal to the Eagle remember the days before the Tsunami, before the masked dead, before the Savage Wave, before the Takashi went to war to usurp the Shiho. But they know, deep within their hearts, and in their prayers, that the Eagle will rise once more victorious, covering Jwar with its wings.
As you may expect, peasants in-game are not very impressive, but the Uncloak Ki Feat means that any of them could have been a Shiho Samurai all along! Now you die! Surprise!
So by fielding three of these, opponents are forced to play as if all of them are Samurai until they uncloak, and you can decide during the game which, if any, are Samurai and which are harmless peasants. Combined with the Shiho Samurais’ ubiquitous Flank trait, this is a powerful way of controlling where the fight will happen.

The Hoshi family, while so entwined with the Minimoto as to be near indistinguishable, maintain their own Ashigaru and those living higher up the Iron Mountains are close to the Kami and Spirits of the mountains. The Hoshi have access to Minimoto blacksmiths and all the benefits this bestows upon their weapons and armour. The Ashigaru’s connection to the spiritual and the cold of the peaks can cause their enemies to freeze and slow while they wield their Yari to trip opponents before finishing them off. It is the aspiration of all the Hoshi’s Ashigaru to walk the mountain peaks unhampered. When they can do this and not be killed by the freezing temperatures, bears or Kami, the Ashigaru ascend to the extremes to guard the Hoshi Family, rarely descending again.
Like most Miniomoto Ashigaru, these new troops from the Hoshi family offer good Armour, Defence from opposed Ki and extra benefits for holding a point alone, including Aware to prevent any surprises.

The rarest and largest of the Tengu, the Kurama are the leaders of the Tengu people. Buzenbo like all of his caste is a formidable warrior with both sword and bow. Standing ten foot tall and with a wing span three times that, the Kurama are a majestic sight on the battlefield. Soaring down and scattering the enemy with a thunderous beat of muscled wing before unleashing volley after volley of steel tipped arrows the length of a man. Very few kitsune master the requisite discipline and aptitude to become a Queen’s guard. Only the very best among already exemplary warriors can fulfil this role. Their stone-faced stoicism and sheer wrath in battle make them some of the empire’s most fearsome combatants. They believe in death before disrepute and will gladly lay down their lives supporting their Queen and everything she stands for. Senshi is the epitome of this. Fearsome, loyal, lightning-quick on the battlefield with an annoying habit of being precisely where he needs to be while the enemy prays hard he will appear elsewhere.
Kitsune and Temple of Ro-Kan players always like to see the Vitality Ki Feat giving extra activations when needed. Senshi’s array of Traits - including Adept and showing combat results other models cannot achieve - make him good on his own. His unprecedented Bodyguard range of 6” is not just a defensive tool but an excellent positioning option. The Kitsune are a fast, early-game warband, with the Sublime Daisho offering a late-game boost where needed. This could prove invaluable.

Mina was born in a small fishing village on the coast below the Rokan mountains, where she loved to swim and play in the sea. She swam gracefully, even managing to use the force of the waves to propel her toward the beach at great speed, and by doing this, she could perform incredible stunts and crowd-pleasing acrobatics. The locals called her a 'water dancer.' Her life was one of sand, sea, and surf; she felt balar-,ced and harmonious and sought to learn more about these feelings and her place in the universe. That is why she went to the Temple ofRo-Kan, to learn more about the wonders of the world and the force that binds it all together. She has been given instruction and teaching, and because of her affinity with the ocean, she can summon sea water to aid in her and others' defence. Her powers are inextricably linked with the tides' pull and the moon's stages.Mina is on the lower rice cost side for monks but boasts a good profile nonetheless. Her feat is Active, so she can be moved in other models' activations, meaning she can help with Melee Assist Penalties, even blocking Lines of Sight or potential movement of an enemy model. Once she has done this, she can still move to clear the way before the end of activation.

If Master Koju is in danger all of creation will bend to ensure her safety, and even the most depraved Kami representing the worst aspects of creation will not harm her. This often manifests as wild animals appearing alongside her to attack those who threaten her and her enemies seem to slow down in her presence allowing her allies the opportunity to take out threats before they have a chance to harm her.

The Shiho’s Ashigaru were once the pride of the Jwar Isles and made up a small but significant part of the Imperial armies that the Emperor relished taking into battle. But that was then, and this is now, and right now, the Takashi Ashigaru are considered the best-trained troops, patrolling the Jwar Isles keeping order for the Prefecture. Still, the Shiho’s fighting men have been together since the usurpation, and the loyalty they show each other is matched only by their commitment to the fallen Eagle Clan.
On the table, these Yarimen can move to assist other Ashigaru, meaning any attack on one soldier is potentially an attack facing two or more! Moreover, the enemy will never know the line’s strength and weak points as it constantly moves and changes.

Kyudo, the art of archery, has long been the pastime of the Samurai and those that perfect it become known as Kyudoka. It is extremely rare and frowned upon for anyone other than Samurai to take up a bow for whatever reason. However, the Shiho, with little access to black powder, have made the bow a formidable part of their arsenal. Shiho Shota, a master of Kyudo, has been training loyal Shiho Ashigaru to use this weapon to devastating effect. They can fire several volleys and disappear into the underbrush before an enemy force can even sound a call-to-arms. Shiho Hiroto, never one for rules or archaic tradition was ecstatic to learn that he had some of the finest archers in Jwar who were not Samurai but loyal Ashigaru instead. Shiho Hiroto is a champion of the people and not the power that forces them into submission.
They may only be Ashigaru, but they have a pool of three ranged and access to the Lightweight trait, making them some of the best missile troops in Bushido. For 14 Rice, they have outstanding Range - and Strength - and can keep their distance to stay safe. With the Eagle Feather Arrow as a choice, it gives them that chance to let loose that one vital shot that must do damage at all costs.

The Moon Lions are well known for their stealth and their savagery, and it is because they share these traits with the members of the Bleeding Moon that they have incorporated these animals into their ever-broadening arsenal. These creatures live in the immediate surrounds of the Bleeding Moon's hidden stronghold, where they are known to eat the unwary, unwanted, and uninitiated. Occasionally the Bleeding Moon finds a cub that can be trained and taken with them. Sadly the Moon Lions are notorious for reverting to their instincts after only a handful of missions together before fleeing back into the wild. However, Neko proves to be different and has become one of the Bleeding Moon, showing no signs of wanting to return to his natural habitat, quite the contrary, he seems more at home within their ranks than most initiates!In your games, Neko is an ambush predator; when he can strike from cover, it always surprises the enemy. He also gains Banzai! which allows him to do this more than once as a charge. He has all the stealth and elusiveness of the ninja he fights alongside, and his Vengeance [Death Sentence] means he gains even more benefit if you put a Marker on the desired target.

It is hard to tell if Xi-Han had lost his mind before or after he consumed every unusual mushroom he could find. The exact purpose of this pursuit remains a mystery. What is clear is that bizarrely he has managed to develop the ability to focus and force his body to replicate the effects of these rare and potent fungi. Sending his body into spasm and unleashing the deranged and violent “Zoo” for a short while to wreak havoc on his enemies. He also still maintains a constant supply of mushrooms on his person that he can throw in battle to Blind, Frighten or enrage anyone unlucky enough to inhale the spores.

Abandoned by accident when the monks of the Temple of Rokan banished the last Savage Wave, one Oni-sho was left without guidance on what it means to be an actual being, let alone an Oni. He wandered the world aimlessly, looking for acceptance until he was captured and taken against his will to the Empire. Once there, he was displayed as an oddity and a warning; he was shackled, bound, and dragged from baying crowd to baying crowd surviving only what they threw at him. He was sold eventually to an unscrupulous warlord who forced him to fight in the notorious Jade Pits of the Tzentch Falls, where he met Shiho Hiroto. Eldest brother has always thought of this meeting as the hand of fate at work and not pure happenstance.
Shiho Hiroto recalls it like this, “I met him on my travels. I was living by my sword carving out a reputation for myself as a Ronin. I would journey from one place to the next, to fight, kill, to do what I had to do before moving on. Then one winter I was up near the Tzentch Falls, in the Jade Pits, doing a bit of fighting for the crowds when they brought him out. He was a lot smaller then, almost like their version of a child, and I felt sorry for him. They’d beaten him senseless and tortured him near death. They almost destroyed him. So I broke his chains, slew anyone that got in our way then robbed the counting-house on the way out. We’ve been together ever since.”
Eldest Brother can deploy with Hiroto, using Flank. Flank gets him to the action unscathed, but how good is he when he gets there? With three melee dice and Brutal, he seems to be on par with other Oni and Oni-sho but his Kata trait (From a time when he joined the Temple, a story told elsewhere) makes him highly reliable in combat. He can also be used as a Savage Wave faction model due to the duality of his nature that constantly fights for control of who he is.
Between Regenerate and Consume Soul, it’s easy to keep him topped up on wound boxes so that he’ll keep swinging that club.
