The ronin of the Shiho remain a thorn in the Takashis' side. Without a fixed army the Takashi have found it almost impossible to hunt down and destroy the remaining rebels in the field, these cowed dogs hide in the woods and hills of the Dragon's lands. The solution has been somewhat answered in the excellent tracking and scouting skills of Atsushi, a former Satou family retainer now sworn to the Takashi. With his faithful hound Shinobu, rooting out those hiding in the dark, eager to savage any at the utterance of a single word from his master.

The Hare Clan are Masters of the Art of War. For them, it has become a life-long scholarly pursuit. They seek to turn oft-overlooked components into assets on the battlefield. Take, for instance, the humble dog not so humble in the hands of the Hare Clan. They have long been trained to fulfil a variety of battlefield roles. Some are messengers that go from tent to tent or position to position delivering vital messages or pieces of pertinent information. Some dogs are used to guard the camps at night, equipped to sniff out the enemy or any would-be infiltrators or assassins. Dog-handlers are Ashigaru and may operate with several dogs in a pack depending on the task at hand. Edogowa and his dogs are used to scout ahead, getting the lay of the land then sending the information back to their lines.
A Prefecture warband can benefit significantly from having Edogawa and his dogs on their side. Aki is a messenger dog running notes back and forth. With a Samurai in the fold, they gain the powerful Order trait, allowing up to three Ashigaru to gain an additional activation. Emi, on the other hand, is a highly trained guard dog, so if anyone tries to Surprise a friendly model, it will first have to Test against Emi or have their advantage negated.

Whether with yari or the fabled Arquebus the ashigaru stationed at Ryu are staunchly loyal to the Takashi and will defend their clan to the death. They are trained and drilled relentlessly to ensure that in battle they act and react instinctively, unflinching as they wait for orders from their Gunso or samurai commanders. The Arquebusiers see it as such an honor to be picked into the regiment that it is said that they even take them on their final journey to Hantaisoku. Hiryu is an Ashigaru hailing from the city of Eddo, distinguished from his fellow Ashigaru in Ryu by the heavier armour he wears. He also skilfully wields the Naginata favoured in the North, rather than the Yari; which is standard issue in Ryu. A life long soldier, Hiryu is a firm believer in rank and file fighting. He understands the ebb and flow of the line and is at his best in battle when fighting shoulder to shoulder with his fellow Ashigaru.

A veteran of the Dragon wars, tales of his courage at the battle of Hendai are still told today in the streets of Tsumaga. He had led the life of a fisherman after the first war until the call from Ryu came, summoning all goshi back to service in this new time of strife. From an early age Isamu exuded an air of authority and a calm head in the heat of the moment. It came as no surprise that he was raised to the rank of Gunso quickly during his first term of service to the Takashi clan, a position he quickly settled into. His experience and presence imbuing his soldiers with a confidence and courage to fight on and turn the tide of battle for the Dragon clan.

The defenders of the Golden Dragon Shrine are some of the finest warriors in the Jwar Isles. Each one not just a capable Samurai but a devout Michi practitioner. The nature of the Shrine and the things it protects are not known, even to the Daimyo of the Dragon Clan but the guardians would each give their lives to protect it.
Kizoko is the first of these new type of Samurai for the Dragon Clan. They play very differently, though you can substitute them for other samurai and they can cover that role well. Disturb Flow offers some new tactics for the Prefecture and if you have Virtue Tokens, the ability gained is valuable.

While only a new ashigaru and just out of training, Kokkio significantly influences the Takashi's tactics. He has learned to use the more recent version of the Dragon Clan's arquebus weapons. While undergoing training, Kokkio sought to use the movement - and distance- of the banners that lined the training area to significant effect. With each twist and turn of the flag in the wind, he could adjust his shots accordingly, becoming far more accurate and decidedly deadlier. He mentioned his technique to his Gunso, who has now incorporated a series of banners on the battlefield to help the gunline get the most out of their weapons and training.
The Prefecture can bring a surprising amount of ranged firepower. A line of arquebuses is sure to be something no opponent would want to approach. Kokkio improves all of their ranged abilities and, with his armour and enough Melee Pool to defend, can fend off melee retaliation. The usual black powder gunline is excellent for this, but consider Matsu, The Grey Pilgrim, and even the Dragons themselves!

akashi Oka is as deadly as she is beautiful. Mizuchi was recently awoken by the blood of Asama Takashi and he is sworn to protect her twin, Matsu. Swooping into battle he uses tail, tooth and claw as weapons against any who oppose the rule of the Prefecture of Ryu. His ability to quickly and easily traverse the battlefield have already proved the difference in many confrontations. Many within the Prefecture say that Mizuchi is a gift from the Kami’s and a sign of their right to rule.

The samurai who guard the Heavenly Dragon Shrine are veterans that must have defeated at least one enemy samurai in a duel and fought in a major battle for the Takashi clan. Most, if not all, have slain several samurai over the years and fought cheek-by-jowl in most of the clan’s most recent battles. To think that this posting is mainly ceremonial would be a mistake, and to hint that it is for retirement is even worse! These samurai have sworn an oath to die defending the shrine and the Michi priests that dwell within its hallowed walls.Age has not dulled their senses or skills, having forgotten most of what young samurai still grapple with learning. They are part of the shrine now and have a connection to their ancestors and the dragons that few outside the shrine could understand. While they rarely leave the Shrine, the recent daimyo’s death has meant that certain priesthood members must travel Jwar, spreading the unfortunate news to hearths and homes of both rich and poor ensuring the balance remains intact. These veteran samurai must guard them against any that would do them harm.
Ryu players can expect a few of these models to offer a different play style for their samurai. The more you include in a warband, the more options you have for Channel, Believer and Virtue effects.

A ward is a member of a noble clan who has been taken in by another clan to be raised for a time. The practice varies, with it sometimes being undertaken voluntarily - to help prospective heirs learn the customs of other clans as part of their education. It can also be involuntarily, with the "ward" actually being a "hostage" for his or her clan's good behaviour or until a ransom is paid. Sometimes, as part of marriage alliances, one of the betrothed is taken as a ward so he or she can get to know his or her future spouse. IIju is not Dragon but Hare, although his loyalty to the Takashi is unquestioned, he is the head of the Takashi household guard whom follow his orders without hesitation.

All the great clans draw on the lesser clans for support, either on the battlefield, in court or commercially, the Takashi are no different and for many generations the Makoto have enjoyed the protection of the Takashi in exchange for their wisdom and consort. The Makoto family are renowned for their wealth of knowledge and love of the sciences. Kioshi has long been the voice of reason in the court of Ryu, his quiet words hold more weight than Minimoto steel to the heads of the Takashi.

“Say nothing, hear everything” is a motto often ascribed to the Satou clan, otherwise known as the Hare clan. Throughout the Empire and the isles, the hare is often seen as a ‘trickster’ creature, full of mischief and surprise, and the Satou are no different from the animal they chose as a visual representation. The Satou clan are staunch allies of the Takashi clan and have been since they set foot in Jwar. While they are similar in martial prowess to the Takashi, there is one area of warfare where they succeed better than most, and that is in creating unusual weapons and tactics. Satou Togai is merely another warrior chosen to test their latest creation in the fiery crucible of battle. Clad in a heavy, flame-resistant suit or armour, Satou Togai wields an unorthodox weapon that is an unholy combination of steel and chain that gives it a range most opponents will underestimate much to their peril. Perhaps this is a small scale version of something grander to come?

The Takashi clan have long followed the teachings of Michi and unlike some of the other clans in the Jwar Isles strictly adhere to its teachings when raising the next generation. The Michi priests already offer the support of their military arm in the form of the Seishin na Geoi, but are not opposed to accompanying any believes on their paths, whether that leads them to battle or otherwise. Through years of dedication the Michi priests are able to evoke the protective powers of their ancestors, dousing flame, neutralising poisons or the intrusive commands of others. The presence of the spirits can also be used to distract and block the concentration of enemies.
